Learning Outcomes
In this course students are expected to learn about the state intervention mechanisms through the budget process and thus they will learn about the basic fiscal instruments government's have at their disposal. Also through this course student's will learn about the optimal structure of public expenditure as well as their impact on income distribution.
Course Content (Syllabus)
This course focuses on the role of the government in the economy. The aim is to provide an understanding of the reasons for government intervention in the economy, analysing the benefits of possible government policies, and the response of economic agents to the government's actions. The course covers public goods, externalities and expenditure programmes Special emphasis is on current policy issues such as education reforms, health care reform and budget deficits.
