Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will analyze the basic concepts of Industrial Economics, will know the historical evolution of industrial policy in Greece and have investigated its role in improving the country's competitiveness.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Industrial organization. Defining markets and industry classification. Economies of scale: sources and methods of measurement. Investments in research and development (R & D): importance of technological change and incentives for business investment in R & D. Competition policy: principles, types of measures and theoretical bases of competition policy concentration. The historical evolution of industrial policy in Greece from the 19th century until today. The theory of the New Industrial Policy. Industrial Strategy and International Competitiveness. Horizontal Industrial Policy actions and their importance in Greece. Networking, flexible specialization and SMEs in Greek economy. Sectoral structure and restructuring in Greece.
