Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will understand the basic concepts of economic growth, will experience the evolution of theories of development and underdevelopment, we understand the causes of inequality gaps and discuss specific policy tools to assist development policy in the light of socially and environmentally sustainable development.

Meaning and features of underdevelopment . Overview of the main theories of underdevelopment underdevelopment of interpretations offered and potential way out of it. Economic and sociological theories of underdevelopment : theories of economic dualism , modernization theories of underdevelopment . Theories huge boost to the vicious cycle of foreign trade. Radical theories of development and underdevelopment : the classical theories of imperialism , imperialism newer theories , structuralist theories of imperialism. Neo-Marxist theories : dependency theories of unequal exchange uneven development , theory of the world system . The key features , limitations and the contribution of each theory in the development process . Experiences underdevelopment : case study countries and their particularities .
