Course Content (Syllabus)
INTRODUCTION TO PRODUCTION/OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT, SYSTEMS THEORY AND DECISION MAKING, DESIGN OF PRODUCTS, DESIGN OF CAPACITY, WORK STUDY, LAYOUT AND FLOW, LOGISTICS AND SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT, INVENTORY MANAGEMENT AND THE ROLE OF FORECASTING, JUST-IN-TIME SYSTEMS, NEW TECHNOLOGIES IN PRODUCTION AND SERVICE OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT, CASE STUDIES. Contents of the Course per week: (Week 1) Introduction to production systems. The strategic role of production and operations management. Systems theory and decision making. (Week 2) Presentation of a case study and Assignment of case studies to the students. (Week 3) Design of products and services. (Week 4) Design of capacity. (Week 5) Facility location. (Week 6) Work design and work study. (Week 7) Just-in-Time system and philosophy. JIT Game: An educational game to distinguish between push and pull production systems. (Week 8) Facility layout and flow. (Week 9) The nature of production and control. Production and control of capacity and inventory. (Week 10) Logistics and Supply Chain management. Time-based competition. (Week 11) Modern technologies in production and service management. Presentation of cases studies by the students. (Week 12) Presentation of cases studies by the students. (Week 13) Summary.
