Course Content (Syllabus)
Structure and properties of the atomic nuclei. Radioactivity. Radioactive decay (α., β. and γ.decay, spontaneous fission). Radioactive equilibrium. Natural radioactivity. Interaction of the nuclear radiation with the matter. The measurement of the nuclear radiation. Nuclear reactions and the production of radioisotopes. The artificial fission and the nuclear fusion. The uranium cycle and the production of the nuclear power. Radiochemical and nuclear methods of analysis (radioanalytical chemistry). Radioactive tracers. Radioactive dating methods. Application of radioisotopes and radiations in the chemistry, medicine, biology and technology. The biological effects of the nuclear radiation. Elements of radioprotection. Laboratory practice: Detection and measurement of nuclear radiation, measurement statistics, absorption of nuclear radiation by the matter, half-life determination of a short-lived radionuclide, alpha- and gamma-ray spectroscopy, natural radioactivity, X-ray fluorescence.
