Learning Outcomes
The familiarity and understanding from the student of the formal and harmonic ingredients and functions of works from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Ability in applying this knowledge in analysis in practice.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Analysis of more complex musical forms and harmonic idioms. Focus on the chromatic harmony of the 19th century and introduction to the harmony of the early 20th century. Analytical application and exercises on musical textures and forms of the 19th century (compound ternary forms, expansions of sonata form, concerto, open forms, programmatic music, national music, etc) and the early 20th century (impressionistic harmony, polymodality, free atonality).

Internet and powerpoint. Equally important is the use of the piano for the live performance of musical examples and works under examination. Email for the communication with the students.

Student Assessment
Description
Formal and harmonic analysis of works other than those studied during the semester, reduction of a musical excerpt. Recognition of early 20th-century compositional techniques and identification of pc sets.
This process is announced in the first lesson of the semester. If clarification needed, this is given during the semester.
