Course Content (Syllabus)
Analysis of more complex musical forms and harmonic idioms. Focus on the chromatic harmony of the 19th century and introduction to the harmony of the early 20th century. Analytical application and exercises on musical textures and forms of the 19th century (compound ternary forms, expansions of sonata form, concerto, open forms, programmatic music, national music, etc) and the early 20th century (impressionistic harmony, polymodality, free atonality).
