Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction to the concepts of transfer coefficients. Friction factors and correlations for flow in closed conduits, around immersed bodies and in fixed beds. Macroscopic balances of mass, energy, momentum and mechanical energy. Applications in the analysis and design of flow circuits and heat transfer equipment. Dimensional analysis and the general form of transfer correlations. Boundary layer analysis and prediction of friction factors and heat and mass transfer. Heat transfer in pipes and the analogies between momentum, heat and mass transfer. Heat transfer correlations in forced convection in pipes and immersed bodies without phase change. Natural convection analysis and heat transfer correlations. Heat transfer during phase change: analysis and empirical heat transfer correlations for condensation and boiling. Radiation energy transfer.
