Application of the basic principles of the physical and chemical processes in fuels production Knowledge on the design of multicomplex distillation towers Understanding of the application of specific types of reactors to complex fuel production processes Understanding of the effect of physicochemical properties on the final application and the environmental impact of their use Becoming familiar with spesific knowledge on the hot topic of environmental fuels and biofuels

Course Content (Syllabus)
• Modern trends in fuels-properties of environmental fuels • Petroleum based liquid fuels • Design of Fractionation Towers- Mass and energy balance calculations in flash zone- Side products calculations • Main processes for the production of liquid fuels- Process characteristics, reactor types, process variables, products for Catalytic Cracking, Catalytic Reforming and Isomerization, Alkylation and Desulfurization • Alternative fuels-Characteristics • Biofuels • Biomass properties • 1st generation biofuels, biogas-bioethanol-biodiesel • Production processes, properties and uses • 2nd generation biofuels- bioethanol from lignocellulose, green diesel, bio-oil, DME, synthetic diesel • Production processes, properties and uses • Carbon footprint of alternative fuels
