Learning Outcomes
The purpose of this course is:
• To acquaint the students with the basic features of organization and administration of the Greek communities within and outside of the Ottoman Empire.
• To perceive that the Community institution contributed to the preservation of the Orthodox tradition and of Greek culture.
• To collect information about the various forms of expressions of popular piety in daily life of the Greek communities.
• To identify survivals of popular piety and tradition in Modern Greek society.

Course Content (Syllabus)
This course examines some issues concerning the Greek communities in the Ottoman period, such as the organization, folk tradition in matters of faith, worship and religious customs.
