Learning Outcomes
The students are expected to acquire a theoretical approach of religious painting during the byzantine era. They learn how to recognise the main techniques of painting as well as the different media used by the byzantine artists. They can discover the aeshetic values of the artistic creations as far as the painting is concerned.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Acquaintance of students with the Byzantine painting which flourished in Byzantium up to the 4th century onwards as imprinted mainly on monumental painting (frescoes and mosaics), portable icons and illuminated manuscripts.
