General Prerequisites
Students must be familiar with research methodology and the online tools needed for bibliography/filmography research as well as with academic writing. It'd be a plus if students had a background in the following theoretical areas: audiovisual language, narratology, literary and film theory, film and art history, psychoanalytic theory, cultural studies.
Learning Outcomes
After the completion of the course, students must have acquired the following background: good knowledge of film theory and film history plus cultural studies, in-depth knowledge of the works and the film genres of a particular film producer (i.e. Alfred Hitchcock). They must have also developed their presentation skills (delivery of information/research results, preparation of audiovisual material, montage)and close audiovisual/textual reading skills.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Course title: Film Topics: Film Theory- Major Film Producers. The course is organized as follows: for the first five weeks emphasis is placed on the total amount of a producer's work which is divided into five distinct periods. Students are responsible for the in-depth study of a particular period which they later present in class also using a ppt presentation plus film excerpts. For the following five weeks, attention is paid to the study of the socio-cultural context and the artistic features of the producer's work. Also student comment on their presentations and findings. Then the student are organized in groups undertaking a project focusing on a particular theme/topic plus theoretical framework (ie. thriller films and suspense as narrative practice OR audience response and psychoanalytic theory). The outcomes of the particular projects are presented in class and students are invited to comment on/self-evaluate their work.
