Course Content (Syllabus)
The Holy and Great Council, held in Crete in 2016, was a historic event for the entire Orthodox Church. The subject of this course is the presentation of the preparation and conducting, as well as the analytical approach of the texts and the teaching of the Council.
Outline of lectures:
1. The Synodal tradition of the Orthodox Church.
2. The Patriarchal and Synodal Encyclicals of 1902 and 1904 as the foundations of the inter – Orthodox collaboration A΄.
3. The Patriarchal and Synodal Encyclicals of 1902 and 1904 as the foundations of the inter – Orthodox collaboration Β΄.
4. The preparation of the Holy and Great Council (The Panorthodox Congress in 1923 and the Preliminary Committee of the Orthodox Churches in 1930) Α΄.
5. The preparation of the Holy and Great Council (The Panorthodox Conferences and the Panorthodox Pre – Conciliar Conferences) Β΄.
6. Analysis of the texts of the Holy and Great Council Α΄.
7. Analysis of the texts of the Holy and Great Council Β΄.
