Prerequisites
General Prerequisites
Good knowledge of the ecclesiastical history and social context of the first eight centuries, of interpretative data of Scripture and the relations between Judaism and Christianity. Appropriate knowledge of the dialogue between the Church Fathers and philosophers, especially Neoplatonismou.Good knowledge of the texts of the first two Ecumenical Councils and the Fathers of the Church of the first eight centuries. Good knowledge of species and the interpretation of classical texts. Good knowledge of the configuration of the liturgical typoi and liturgical arts.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course students will be able to examine: 1. historical and theological texts of the first eight centuries AD, and to participate in review issue, 2. to search the conciliar texts of the Church's life and compare them with the modern Orthodox act and the interchristian relations, 3. to interpret the dialogue of the Orthodox Church with the philosophy and the social environment, in which stood the Byzantine and post-Byzantine civic institutions, 4. to have theological arguments for the inter-Christian and inter-religious dialogue, 5.to compose the tradition of the Orthodox Church with the data of the modern world.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Systematic interpretation of dogmatic and symbolic texts of the Orthodox Church of the 3rd, 4th, Ecumenical Councils, i.e. interpretation of terms and canons of dogmatic interest.Combined use of patristic texts (chrises) and Synodal anthology of St. Cyril, Proclus of Constantinople, Anastasius of Sinai, Maximus Confessor and John Damascene. Outline of Lectures (Syllabus): 1. Christological heresies before the Synod of Ephesus. 2. The Epistles of St. Cyril to Nestorius. 3. The reasons for convocation the Third Ecumenical Synod and its process. 4. Textual production during the Synod. 5. The first Agreement, the Anaphora. 6. The Form of Reconciliation 7-8 The Second Letter of St. Cyril to Nestorius 9-10 The Third Letter of St.Cyril to Nestorius 11. The State (Oros)of the Fourth Ecumenical Council 12. Conciliar texts of the period after the Synod of Chalcedon and Oroi 13. Excerpts from the work De Fidei by St. John the Damascenus
