General Prerequisites
Good knowledge of the historical and ecclesiastical context of the first eight centuries and the interpretation of Holy Scripture. Appropriate knowledge of the dialogue between the Fathers of the Church and the philosophers.Good knowledge of the texts of the Ecumenical Councils and the theology of the Fathers of the Church. Good knowledge of the configuration of the liturgical praxis and the cultural records of the Church (Christian literature and art).
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course students will be able: - To familiarize students with the foundations of the Christian faith, life and the cultural records of the Church Christian literature and art). - Comprehension of the Prolegomena (basic tenets) in theDogmatics of the Orthodox Catholic Church. - Comprehension of the basic Knowledge of the main dogmas of the Orthodox faith (centered upon Triadology, Christology – Ecclesiology) in synchrony and diachrony with the way of life of the ecclesial community. - To connect Dogmatics organically and inextricably with the biblical testimony and patristic tradition, together with the ethos and worship, theory and practice of the Church. - To compose the content of the faith of the Orthodox Church with the data and the demands of the modern world.

Course Content (Syllabus)
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Prolegomena (basic tenets) in the Dogmatics of the Orthodox Catholic Church, as well as the exact exposition of the foundations of the Orthodox faith with the presentation and interpretation of its main dogmas: Theology – Triadology, Cosmology, Anthropology,the Christological dogma and its soteriological extensions, Pneumatology, Ecclesiology, the teaching of the Sacraments, eschatological anticipation and Christian perfection. SCHEDULE OF LECTURES: 1) Hermeneutical principles and conditions, theological criteria and keys in the Dogmatics of the Orthodox Catholic Church.Connection between Theology, Cosmology and Anthropology (God: cosmos – Man). 2) Elements and historical examination of the Orthodox dogma and the Dogmatics of the Orthodox Catholic Church until today. The meaning, sources, formation and essence of the Orthodox dogma. 3) The double theological method of the Greek Fathers and the consequences of its application. Academic theology and charismatic theosis - empirical theology. 4) Prolegomena in the theological gnosiology. The One and synchronously Triune God (Τρισυπόστατη μονάδα). 5) Unions and Distinctions in the Holy Trinity. The distinction between the divine essence and uncreated energies of God. The energy-based (ενεργειακή) relationship between God, creation and Man. 6) Creation out of nothing. Uncreated and created. In image and in likeness of Man. 7) Interpretation of original sin and its consequences on creation and Man. Triadology, Christology and Ecclesiology in the patristic tradition and in contemporary theological thought. 8) The Mystery of the incarnate Economy and the purpose of the Incarnation. Christology and Anthropology. God-Man (Theánthropos), the authentic Man. 9) The first Christological heresies, their confrontation and the way of union of the two natures in the person of Christ. The Christological dogma of Chalcedon. 10) Consequences of the hypostatic union of the two natures of Christ. The Theotokos and Orthodox dogma. The two natural wills and the two natural energies of Christ. 11) Christ’s renewal of human nature. The renewal of all Man as an act of Trinitarian energy. Creation – Church – Kingdom of Heaven. The Church as Body of Christ. 12) The Holy Spirit and the Church. Infallibility and the limits of the Church. The charismata, offices and the institutional organization of the Church. The Church as charismatic body. 13) Τhe Sacraments as medium and way of renewal, therapy and salvation of Man or an oration On the Life in Christ of the world. The unity of the Church in the Eucharist and the Bishop. History and eschata. Eschatological anticipation and Christian perfection (Paradise and Hell).
