Course Content (Syllabus)
THEORY
The course offers a) basic information regarding the New Testament text and its history, the formation of the New Testament Canon, the editions and translations of the New Testament, and b) a short introduction to the books of the New Testament (outline and content, historical, philological and exegetical issues, theological message of each book)
PRACTICE (NT text criticism)
In the practical part of the course the following topics will be discussed: a) the history of the manuscript tradition of the NT text, b) its major witnesses, c) ancient and modern translations of the NT, d) the critical text of the NT (criteria, text types, editions etc.), and e) the concrete example of the critical edition of the NT by the Münster Nestle-Aland Institute.
