Course Content (Syllabus)
1.Physico-chemical and microbiological characteristics of water along with their influence on human health, as well as the strategy of design of water treatment processes. 2. The processes of suspended solids separation: coagulation-flocculation, sedimentation-flotation, sand and membrane filtration. Lab-experiments using coagulation-flocculation and sand and filtration for suspended solids separation, along with evaluation of the process by particles number and size distribution. 3. Water disinfection processes by various disinfectants, disinfection mechanism, process design and industrial implementations. 4. Design of processes for dissolved substances removal by implementation selective methods such as chemical precipitation, adsorption and ion exchange and non-selective such as nano-filtration and reverse osmosis. 5. Specific processes for water treatment:  Ion-exchange – adsorption: Process design – capital and running cost  Chemical and biological removal of Fe – Mn – NH3.  Cr(VI), As, Sb, Se: Origin, speciation, toxicity, removal processes, capital and running cost.  Heavy metals removal, processes design, selectivity.  Water dams, stratification and destratification processes. 6. Management of sludge from water treatment processes. 7. Scale and corrosion inhibitions methods 8. Visit to water treatment facilities
