Learning Outcomes
The course informs about the science of Lexicography and, more specifically, about the history of the New Statement Lexicography. Moreover, it informs about the specialized Lexicons and the specialized Grammars occurred in the international bibliography for the New Testament language and, more generally, for the Hellenistic Koine language of the era. Also, it teaches the use of them in the study and research, theological and linguistic, of the New Testament text.
By the successful completion of the course the students should be able:

to make use of the appropriate Lexicons and Grammars of the New Testament for the understanding and interpretation of the words of its text

to acquire ability to the correct and effective use of the Index of New Testament Words (Concordance) and to the correct search of the meanings of the words in the specialized Lexicons

to implement the linguistic and lexical information into the context.
Course Content (Syllabus)
The history of the New Testament Lexicography is presented, from the beginning until today, and the main topics of this scientific field are discussed. Examples are given and practice for the use of the Grammar and Lexicons as auxiliary books for the understanding of the New Testament text is applied.

The making of a Lexicon. The principles of the New Testament Lexicography.

The first Lexicons of the New Testament. Kinds of the New Testament Lexicons.

The contribution of the documents (papyri, inscriptions) to the composition of the Lexicons. The new Lexicons.

Translations of the New Testament texts and Lexicons.

Semantic Lexicons.

Theological Lexicography.

Electronic Lexicons. Data bases for lexicological research. Presentation and use of TLG.

New Testament Grammars. Presentation and critique.

The contribution of the New Testament Lexicography to the New Testament Exegesis.

Examples of use of Lexicons for the meaning and the interpretation of New Testament words.

Presentation of assignments.

A conducted tour to the department of Lexicons-Grammars in the Libraries of the Faculties of Theology and Philosophy (The tour takes place in due time, preferably at the mid of the semester).
