Course Content (Syllabus)
The course aims to familiarize the student with the explanations that were given by various religions regarding the origins of the universe as well as certain geological phenomena. Additionally, through creation stories, major geological phenomena will be identified and explained. Finally, emphasis will be given on the Hexaemeron of St. Basil the Great. Course outline: 1. Geology – scope, history, religion 2. Geological features in religious cosmogonies 3. St. Basil’s the Great Hexaemeron 4. The Heaven and the Earth 5. The creation of light 6. The gathering of the waters 7. The creation of stars 8. The creation of plants and animals 9. Religious cosmogony and geology: Earthquakes 10. Religious cosmogony and geology: Flood 11.
