Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to: - understand the importance and function of the priciples and rules that govern armed conflicts. - realize the significance of compliance with the international conventions that form International Humantitarian Law. - approach on a realistic basis the expectations from the effort to regulate the phenomenon of armed conflicts. - deal with a humane-centric spirit the challenges set by the use of armed force by state and non state actors. - apply rules to found judgments over controversial situations that deal with the protections of non combatants and combatants in cases of armed conflict.

Course Content (Syllabus)
International Humanitarian Law is a special part of General Public International Law and deals with the rules and principles that govern armed conflicts, whether international or internationalized. The course focuses to the Hague Regulations (1907), the Geneva Conventions (1949) and the Additional Protocols (1977) to them. Emphasis is given to the protection of non combatants, those that are found hors de combat and the combatants, and further it elaborates the spirit of humantity according to which wartime dilemmas should be dealt. Finally, it is noted that this course is a partial requirement of an international conventional obligation of our country.
