Learning Outcomes
Students who attend the course are expected to • become familiar with the analytical categories of perception, identity and space as tools of historical research, and with the study of travel narratives • understand how medieval Europe perceived the byzantine culture, and vice versa. • comprehend their cultural encounters. • understand similarities and differences in their historical evolution. • practice their skills to present orally and in written their ideas and arguments.

Description
Students will have to study weekly specific bibliography (in Greek or English) and present, orally or in written, brief reports of their critical reading. They will also have to study and comment on specific sources of High Middle Ages. At the end of semester they have to present orally and then submit a written essay of c. 4000 words. Students’ evaluation will depend on their weekly presentations and their final written essay.
