Course Content (Syllabus)
The seminar aims at studying the Modern Greek Enlightment as a historical phenomenon integrated and connected to the European environment, and at the same time understanding the local conditions that allowed its appearance and flourishing at the time of the late Ottoman political sovereignty. Particular emphasis will be placed on examining and studying the impact of new ideas on the conventional ways of thinking that prevailed in traditional Greek society, the ways, the networks, the persons involved, etc., as well as their impact on the consciousness of the society that received them. The new ideas will be analyzed as a prerequisite for the birth and consolidation of the vision of freedom until the time of its political claim through the revolutionary processes of the early 19th century. Along with the use of existing bibliography, the study of the above subjects requires knowledge of the original works of the most representative writers of that time.
