Course Content (Syllabus)
This course is designed exclusively for classics majors. It focuses on minor and less-studied poetic genres, for example, parody. All texts are closely studied in the original Greek and emphasis is given to issues of language and interpretation, with due reference to the special character of the work studied and its relation to other literary genres.
More specifically we will deal with:
o The examination of the history and the nature of the genre of epic parody from archaic to post-classical period
o The understanding of the way parodists view literary production and in particular Homer
o The examination of the state of the text of Homer in the fourth century
o The understanding of the parodists' literary techniques
