-train students on the methods and techniques of the historical and comparative study of ancient Indo-European languages
-familiarize them with the main issues concerning the study of the Indo-European linguistic family
-to offer the students the theoretical and methodological tools so that they view the classical languages within the historical and comparative purview of the Indo-European linguistic family
Course Content (Syllabus)
General introduction to the historical and comparative study of the Indo-European languages; the question of the initial homeland; language relations and linguistic families; the comparative method and related techniques; linguistic paleontology; the comparative grammar of the ancient Indo-European languages: phonology, morphology, syntax, lexicon and lexical semantics.
