Learning Outcomes
The course objectives are:
(A) to enable students to complete the linguistic training which was the main objective of the 1st Semester and reach a desired level of familiarity with Latin language, in order to gain confidence and relative ease in reading texts;
(B) to cope with matters of textual criticism and begin developing an interest for a critical approach to Latin prose;
(C) to get accustomed with the generic peculiarities of various generic formations;
(D) to practice with critical approach to Latin prose;
(E) to set the texts in broader contexts and read them as fashioned both by the broader historical environment and a long literary evolution;
(F) to come to grips with a substantial part of the history of Latin literature by acquiring basic knowledge for major literary genres, representatives and works of Latin prose.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course focuses on the teaching of Latin prose.
Part of the course (approx. 25%) is devoted to an introductory presentation of Latin prose genres as well as the main representatives thereof.
The main part of the course (approx. 75%) aims at having the students familiarized with specific text (chosen by each instructor), used as a case study for the application of various critical approaches to literature: these include language training, acquaintance with Latin texts (e.g. textual criticism) and interpretative matters, contextualization from a historical (literary and extra-literary) perspective, particularities of genre etc. At this level (2nd Semester) of study particular emphasis is given to language practice and matters of textual criticism of Latin literature which have students acquire basic background required for interpreting Latin texts.
