Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able:to approach the concept of religious freedom and equality according the Greek Constitution and European legislation
to be aware of the role of religion in the public space
to show awareness of equal opportunities and gender issues
to apply knowledge in professional and social life, in accordance with human rights and European values
to show awareness of issues of social exclusion and prejudice
to be aware of the relevant case-law of the European Court of Human Rights on religious freedom.
Course Content (Syllabus)
The course examines the relationship between the state and the right of religious freedom as formulated in the modern European social and political context. Specifically shows the historical development of human rights and its relationship with religion. Still examined issues of universality and relativism. In this context the most important official ecclesiastical texts relating to religious freedom are presented in working groups.

Students’ participation in classroom (discussion, asking questions, formulating comments,
giving information) is usually used as an important indicator of the interest of the student and is auxiliary to the results of exams. Examinations are written, oral, written assignments, or a combinations of these forms.
