Learning Outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the theoretical concepts, tools and methods of spatial organization and planning and familiarize them with the context of spatial planning in Greece. The course examines some of the key theoretical approaches of spatial organization at the regional and supra regional scale and their implication for regional planning, in both theory and practice

The course consists of (a) lectures and discussion in class and (b) small exercises (optional)
The course addresses the following issues:
• The concepts of space and spatial development and the significance of the spatial dimensions of economic and social processes
• Theories of Location and Land Use: Central Place theory, Agricultural Land Use, Industrial Location
• Spatial Development theories and their implication for regional spatial planning
• Regional spatial planning and regional development policy: evolution, current context and future perspectives
• Regional spatial planning in Greece
• The discussion of regional spatial planning at the EU level and the principles and context of Spatial Development
