To understand the importance and role of population in development processes. To familiarise with key concepts, theories, methods and applications of Population Geography. To deepen into specific issues through theoretical, empirical and methodological grounding. To highlight the interdisciplinar character of Population Geography.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Population Geography and the Social Sciences Data sources, measurement and estimation Demographic characteristics and population composition Demographic phenomena: fertility and mortality Population change Geographic distribution Internal migration and urbanisation. Theories of international migration. Population theories and models. Global population: trends and prospects. Case studies from the Greek and international experience.
