Course Content (Syllabus)
The course deals with medicine of ancient cultures, Homeric medicine, medical aspects of Greek mythology, medicine practiced in oracles and especially medicine of Asclepius. The presocratic philosophical schools and their impact on the tranformation of medicine from theocratic to rationalistic are presented, while Hippocratic medicine is studied. Medicine of the Hellenistic era is presented, along with Greco-Roman and especially Galenic medicine. Medicine practiced in the Middle Ages, Arabic medicine and Byzantine medicine alre also treated, while the new conditions, discoveries and the most important people of Renaissance, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th century are presented.

Description
During the written evaluation of students, the basic knowledge of the course of evolution of medicine is seeked. It is necessary for students to know the key elements that contributed to the progress of medicine. The clear knowledge and understanding of the temporal sequence of historical facts and discoveries is also evaluated.
