Learning Outcomes
Development of knowledge in subjects concerning the political, social and economic geography of Europe. Study of the basic elements regarding the structure, the history and the organization of European Union. Detail reference to the horizontal and thematic structural policies of European Union and knowledge concerning their application and impacts to economy and society in Greece. Introduction in spatial development planning with emphasis to the procedure of building realistic and effective development plans on a national or regional basis.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Geographical analysis of the European territory: Political geography of Europe. Developments and prospects. Definition and analysis of socioeconomic indices of European Union (E.U.). Restructuring of urban industrial areas. The European experience. Structure and operation of E.U.. Structural funds and initiatives. Regional policies and prospects: analysis of the action plan. The structural policies on the European level. The role of Greece. Experience from the implementation of the community initiatives. Geographical analysis of the balkan and mediterranean territory. Natural and human resources.
