Course Content (Syllabus)
Ε34-449 Specialization karate II AIM: Τhe students should complete the theoretical knowledge and practical skills in particularly regarding the competitive karate, so they could prepare athletes as coaches of all competition categories in order to participate in competitions. The preparation and presentation of the essay related with karate at the end of the semester. Learning and teaching units: Lectures 1. The competition karate. 2. Basic Regulations of karate competitions (Sport - Traditional). 3. Annual programming. 4. Peak fitness and periodization (cycles). 5. Specific forms of training for competitive karate. 6. Exercise with weights - Muscle-strengthening. 7. Vital points of the human body. 8. Physical weapons of the human body. 9. Injuries in karate. 10. Behavior and code of conduct - self-defense with application to extreme situations. 11. Similarities and differences of styles/ryu. Invitation to famous trainers and representatives of different styles/ryu: (Shotokan, Shito, Goju, Wado, Kyokushin, etc.). 12. Presentations of the essays. 13. Presentations of the essays. Practice 1. Learning of stances/Dachi: (Half-Facing Back Leg Bent Front Stance/Fudo-Dachi), Cat Stance/Neko-Ashi-Dachi,, Half-Moon Stance/Hangetsu-Dachi, Foot Ahead Stance/Sanchin-Dachi, Feet Outward Straddling Horse Stance/Shiko- Dachi, Feet Crossed Stance/Kosa-Dachi). 2. Practice in punches/Zuki (1): (lead hand punch/Kizami Zuki, Back Fist Strike/Uraken uchi, Hammer Fist Strike/Kentsui Uchi). 3. Practice in punches/Zuki (2): (Vertical/Tate, Upwards/Age, Inverted/Ura, Hooked/Kagi, Roundhouse/Mawashi, Double/Morote). 4. Open Hand Strikes/Uchi: (with knuckles of the fingers Hiraken (Foreknuckle)/Ippon-Ken (1 knuckle)/Nakadaka-Ken (extended middle knuckle), Knifehand/Shuto, Ridge Hand/Haito, Back Hand/Haishu, Hand Lance/Nukite, Palm Heel/Teisho). 5. Strikes with elbow: (Vertical-Rising/Tate-Enpi, Lateral/Yoko-Enpi, Backward/Ushiro-Enpi, Downward/Otoshi-Enpi, Semicircular/Mawashi-Enpi). 6. Blocking Techniques (Te-Ude/Uke - Waza): - With a hand/Sekiwan Uke (Nagashi Hiji Uke, Te Nagashi Uke, Osae Uke, Teisho Uke, Otoshi Uke). - With both hands/Ryowan Uke: (Juji Uke, Kakiwake Uke, Morote Uke, Sokumen Awase Uke, Teisho Awaze Uke, Morote Sukui Uke). 7. Foot and Leg Techniques/Ashi Waza: (- Kicks/keri waza, - Foot or leg sweep/Ashi Barai Waza, - Leg blocking techniques/Ashi Uke Waza). 8. Training on targets. 9. Combinations of basic/Kihon techniques (Renraku Waza) and consecutive combinations of techniques/Renzoku-waza. Forms of sparring/(Kumite) - Fight with a real opponent. Standard sequence techniques with imaginary opponent/(Kata). 10. Pre-prepared attack techniques and a prearranged block and counter 1: One step free style sparring/Jiyu Ippon Kumite. - Kata selectively (2): Bassai Dai, Kanku Dai, Enpi, Jion. 11. Pre-prepared attack techniques and a prearranged block and counter 2: One step free style sparring/Jiyu Ippon Kumite. - Kata selectively (2): Bassai Dai, Kanku Dai, Enpi, Jion. 12. Pre-prepared attack techniques and a prearranged block and counter 3: One step free style sparring/Jiyu Ippon Kumite. - Kata selectively (2): Bassai Dai, Kanku Dai, Enpi, Jion 13. Contest/Jiu Kumite (implementing regulations of sports karate). - Contest/Kata - free choice/Tokui by: Bassai Dai, Kanku Dai, Enpi, Jion.
