Learning Outcomes
Introduction to basic concepts and the reasoning of statistics. Students will learn about organizing and displaying graphical and numerical summaries of data, and drawing conclusions. Topics include a) descriptive statistics, methods for describing sets of data, normal distributions, b) correlation and regression, and c) familiarity with concept of statistical inference, hypothesis testing of common parameters and basic inferential statistical tests.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction to experimental research, types of data and scales of measurement, frequency distributions for quantitative data, graphs for frequency distributions, typical curves for frequency distributions and normality, averages for quantitative and qualitative data, measures of variability, normal distributions, types of variables, partial correlation, simple linear regression, population and sample, hypothesis testing (null and alternative, level of significance), parametric and non-parametric methods (assumptions and common tests), t-test for two samples.
