Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to use prior knowledge in order to study how resource rooms function within the mainstream kindergarten. They will also be able to investigate the learning and social characteristics of a pupil with special educational needs and the degree to which it can be included in the peer group.
Course Content (Syllabus)
The course includes seminars, lectures, tutorials and resource room-based practice.
Seminars and lectures are on the following topics:
1. Discussion of basic pedagogical issues concerning special education (pedagogy of inclusion, peer culture and inclusion in the peer group, curriculum learning demands and cognitive impediments for children with special educational needs, the role of special and mainstream teacher)
2. Developmental disorders (special developmental disorders, intellectual disabilities, communication disorders)
3. Social and emotional traits of developmentally disordered children.
Resource room-based practice is done in pairs of two.
