Course Content (Syllabus)
ENERGY RESOURCES and TECHNOLOGY INTRODUCTION: Energy at various stages of conversion and use, primary, secondary, final and useful energy. Efficiency of energy production, transportation, conversion and use. History of energy use. The energy problem. ENERGY SOURCES: Characteristics, reserves, technologies for exploitation, conversion and use of fossil energy sources, nuclear energy and renewable energy sources. THE ENERGY SYSTEM: Production – transformations – usage sectors of energy. Electric Power System, Energy conservation and rational use of energy. ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENT: Energy system impacts on the environment. Air pollution. Air pollutant emissions. Methodologies for emissions estimation. ENERGY, SOCIETY AND ECONOMY: Energy balances and statistics. Energy and society. Energy and economic activity. Energy and environmental Indices. Energy crises. Energy Planning and Policy. Energy demand forecasting methodologies.
