Learning Outcomes
Understanding of building's energy balance and the importance of insulation to the building's energy upgrade. Heating and cooling load calculation. Introduction to heating, refrigeration and air-conditioning in buildings. Understanding of thermal comfort and indoor air-quality in buildings.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Energy balance of the building, thermal insulation, calculation of thermal insulation efficiency, thermal insulation materials, ventilation and thermal comfort. Introduction to Heating: principles and systems of heating. Thermal load calculation. Boilers, heating elements. Heating systems. Piping calculations and design of the heating network. Introduction to refrigeration: Physical principles. Cooling mixtures and refrigeration cycles. Compression. Introduction to air conditioning: principles, calculation of cooling loads. Thermal comfort. Design of air conditioning equipment and systems. Design and lay out of air distribution systems. Piping and networks of air conditioning units.
