To comprehend the concepts of Supply Chain Management and Logistics, to identify the difference between them, as well as to recognise the importance of supply chains in the contemporary globalised environment.
To recognise the advantages of the efficient collaborations in the context of a supply chain.
To understand the importance and the effect of information management on the efficient operation of supply chains.
To comprehend the Bullwhip effect and to be able to implement efficient strategies to address it.
To be able to recognise Push, Pull and Push-Pull strategies in a supply chain, to identify the optimal level of postponed differentiation depending on the type of the produced product, and to be able to apply ‘Risk-Pooling’ techniques.
To be able to develop and apply revenue management policies.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Supply Chain Management focuses on the flow of products, processes, information and resources in the "extended enterprise" that includes suppliers, production units, warehouses, intermediate distibution points and final destination points. At first, a holistic mapping of the related problems, opportunities and methodological tools is conducted. Following, the relationship between the supply chain and the strategic allocation of an enterprise is addressed. Moreover, issues related to the collaboration of the supply chain's stakeholders are presented. including decision-making, motivation and risk management. Special focus is given to the critical role of information technology systems on the development of Supply Chain Management through basic tools, such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), XML, Warehouse Management Systems(WMS), RFID Tags andVendor Managed Inventory (VMI).
