After completing this course, the students will be able:
- to acquire knowledge and skills that will encourage them to set up their own small or medium-sized enterprise,
- to have basic knowledge of the operation and management of a small or medium-sized enterprise,
- to know the basic legal forms of business
- to develop self-employment professional activities,
- to have knowledge of the use of capital in an entity,
- to apply the main investment evaluation methods
- to know basic concepts of commercial law
- to know basic elements of labor law and corporate taxation
- to know the basic principles of preparing a business plan
Course Content (Syllabus)
The main objective of this course is to contribute to the cultivation of innovative business thinking, by imparting basic knowledge of modern entrepreneurship to veterinary students. In particular, the course analyzes among other things the business environment, provides basic knowledge of organization and management, planning and marketing, evaluation of investment proposals, drafting business plans, and human resource management.
Theoretical lectures [14 hours]
1st -2nd hour •Introduction to the concepts of entrepreneurship and innovation
•Entrepreneurship and modern labor market
•Characteristics and skills of a candidate entrepreneur
3th – 4th hour •Entrepreneurial environment research - entrepreneurial opportunities
•Incentives for Entrepreneurship
•Elements of commercial law (traders, trader acts, bankruptcy, etc)
5th-6th hour •Legal conditions and procedures for the foundation of an enterprise
•Types and legal forms of enterprises
•Criteria for selection of the legal form and the place of establishment of an enterprise
7th-8th hour •Elements of labor law (labor contract, employer/employee engagements, salary, termination of a labor contract)
•Elements of taxation law
9th-11th hour •The current framework of entrepreneurship in Greece
•Basic principles of management of a small-medium size enterprise
•Planning actions, strategic planning, decision making, control
•Assessment of the external - internal entrepreneurial environment
•SWOT analysis
12th-13th hour •Basic principles of marketing - Strategic marketing (market research, marketing decisions)
•Risk assessment and management
•Financial analysis
•Estimating the efficiency of an enterprise
14th hour •Legal framework of investments and investment incentives.
•Funding sources for entrepreneurial activities
•Funding plan and project appraisal
Practicals [8 hours]
1st-2nd hour •The business plan - Principles of constructing a business plan.
3rd-4th hour •Use of business planning software.
•Development of a business plan regarding a new entrepreneurial activity in the area of veterinary science (production or/and health services)
5th -8th hour •Presentation of business plans – Critique and evaluation of business plans
