Learning Outcomes
The course's objective is to promote the understanding of the physicochemical principles of pharmaceutics, and the interrelations between the physical properties of the raw materials and those of the pharmaceutical formulations and final dosage forms.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Introductory physics and mathematics concepts in pharmaceutics. Gases, vapors and supercrtitical fluids: physical properties and applications in pharmaceutics. Solid state properties (crystal structure, polymorphism, solvate formation) and applications in pharmaceutics. Dissolution of substances. Principles of rheology and rehological properties of pharmaceutical fluid formulations. Surface and interfacial phenomena. Pharmaceutical dispersion systems (suspensions, emulsions, micro-emulsions, micelles). Solubilization of poorly soluble substances. Diffusion and dissolution of dosage forms. Polymers, their structure and physical properties.
The course includes laboratory practical exercizes. The processing of the experimental data, as well as their presentation, requires the use of a computer.
