Learning Outcomes
The students are expected to:
• get a solid grasp of theatre terminology associated with different types of theatre.
• exploit authentic texts from the area of theatre and drama studies.
• develop skills of critical thinking and analysis through the examination of texts about neoclassical, romantic, symbolist, and expressionist theatre and drama.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Authentic reading texts followed by comprehension and vocabulary exercises, and discussion questions. There are also sections that comprise broader activities that engage the students in more open and free-spirited tasks and activities. The texts touch upon various fields of theatre, drama and performance studies and are taken from a wide variety of sources. Indicative titles of units: The Baroque Era, Neo-classicism and romanticism, Symbolism, Aestheticism, Expressionism, Absurd drama, Dramatic study: Features of drama / Plot and Structure / The language of drama, Restoration drama terms, Enron: The play.
