Course Content (Syllabus)
This course aims to familiarize students with modern pedagogical and didactical concepts. The students get to know various teaching forms and methods, with a focus on cooperative teaching and learning forms. Different ways of managing problems that may occur in the classroom are discussed; especially those more common in a multicultural class. Issues regarding teaching techniques are addressed, with particular emphasis on students’ group work and the project method, differentiated instruction and learning communities. Moreover, the role that the space -as a part of cooperative teaching and learning- plays is analyzed, especially through the students’ relationship with the space and the ways this relationship could be utilized in the framework of collaborative learning. Finally, following the principal of ‘learning by doing’, a practical implementation of cooperative teaching and learning forms is made, through which the graduate students have the opportunity to become aware of the benefits of the cooperative approach in teaching. Additionally students are given the chance to reflect on these forms’ potential and their restrictions. The evaluation of the students is based on individual or collaborative papers produced by the students on issues related to the course’s subject.
