Prerequisites
General Prerequisites
This course familiarize students with some crucial features of the post-Enlightenment, 19th century and early 20thcentury political thought. Our approach will involve a reflection on a number of questions including Hegelian political theory, French liberalism, utilitarianism and Marxian radical critiques of politics. In addition, the course will focus on patterns of antidemocratic and antiliberal thought in late modernity (Nietzsche, Karl Schmitt) and the philosophies of contemporary conservatism (Leo Strauss, Michael Oakeshott).
Learning Outcomes
The course aims to deepen student’s understanding of the issues of modern political theory and philosophical foundations of our modernity.
