Learning Outcomes
As a result of taking the course students are expected to
• understand the role of space in shaping economic phenomena
• understand how the contemporary economy operates, from the local to the global scale, as well as the close links between local events and global phenomena,
• Familiarize themselves with the range of policies used to enhance spatial development
Course Content (Syllabus)
The course covers a wide range of theoretical approaches to regional and urban development by analyzing both the basic concepts of space and site-selection factors, as well as the role of geography in development. The course is divided into three basic modules. The first includes the main theoretical discussions, with particular emphasis on the most recent ones; the second concerns regional / urban / local development policies, while the third deals with a series of specific issues of particular importance for the understanding of the spatial dimensions of the modern world. At the same time, each of the lectures is based on three categories of material: a) Material from the basic textbooks b) Extensive bibliography (mainly international) c) Case studies
