Learning Outcomes
After the end of the course, the students should: • Be able Understand and evaluate concepts related to gender in education, especially the education of national and culturally "different" groups. • Be aware of, and able to critically analyze and evaluate educational institutions and educational policies in managing students and female students from different social and cultural environments. In addition, students should be able to recognize the economic, social and ideological factors that influence the formation of the above policies. • To recognize discrimination, racism and exclusion, where they exist, either in schools or in society. • To further cultivate the ability to relate their experiences with the empirical and theoretical data relevant scientific areas.

Course Content (Syllabus)
During the course we will study the causes of the reproduction of the phenomenon of social exclusion, including racism as one of the most basic of them. Focus will be on theories and research data regarding the educational exclusion and in anti-racist education. We also examine the way that factors as class, race, gender and culture inter-relate within the educational proccess. Finally, during the course we are going to explore some of the appropriate educational policies that could meet the needs of a multicultural society. Sub-themes of the course 1. Economic, social, ethnic, cultural differences in the new multicultural environment. 2. Capitalism, Immigration & Education. 3. Socio-economic inequalities, poverty and social / educational exclusion. 4. Diversity and educational policies i. Assimilation ii. Integration iii. Multicultural education iv. Antiracist education v. Intercultural Education 5. Educational institutions and different student population 6. Democracy at school (Individual and Social Rights and Equality in Education).

1. Active participation of students in the process of the presentation and the discussion of related articles (40% of the final score). 2. Preparation and presentation of literature or research work. Students present a small, bibliographic work related to one of the theme of the course (60% of the final score).
