Learning Outcomes
After the end of the course, the student should be able to (a) understand the basic parameters that affect the seismic base isolation procedure for new buildings and (b) retrofit techniques using base isolation for existing structures.

Base isolation systems: Theory, Base isolation systems: Code Provisions, Experimental work on base isolation systems, Numerical modelling of base isolation systems, Numerical modelling of the combined superstructure-isolation system, Field measurements on base isolated buildings, Full scale experiments on retrofitted / isolated buildings (e.g, Solarinoproject), Seismic response of base isolation systems
