Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to: - understand the function and complexity of the international organization. - realize the significance, and the multiple roles of international institutions and organizations. - approach on a realistic basis the expectations from the international organizations and the results of international organizations’ policies. - deal with a comprehensive way with the international community, beyond a simplistic and state-centric reading. - apply a legal approach in the understanding of the law of international organizations.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course of International Institutions attempts to present different forms of international cooperation and integration. International intergovernmental organizations are the main focus of analysis, whilst non-formal ways of international cooperation are also explored. Moreover, there are issues examined, like the legal personality, the powers, competences, responsibilities, and privileges of international organizations, whereas their influence in the international law-making, their relation with member-states and non member-states, and of course the relation between them is also evaluated. Special attention is given to the System of the United Nations and the specialized agencies connected to the Organization of the United Nations.

Students are welcome to use Moodle and digital data bases such as Westlaw and Jstor, and retrieve information from the websites of the United Nations and other international organizations. Also, they may contact the teaching staff via email.
