Learning Outcomes
To approach the meaning of the "total work of art", to establish the relations of music to other forms of art (visual, theater, dance), to familiarize oneself with the problem and role of music in the culture of the 20th century.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course progresses in ten unities: 1. The peculiar relation between the painter and the stage in the 20th century. Differentiation from the 19th century and example for the 20th century. 2. The meaning of the scenic creation for the painter. The relation between important artists with musicians and choreographers in the years before the war. 3. Russian ballets 4. Futurists, “mechanical world” 5. Russian constructivism 6. Construction, functionality and the conception of space 7. Suisse ballets: Leger and Picabia 8. Abstraction: 1920-1930 9. 1920-1950: Different aspects of reality 10. 1950 until today: Music-dance-scenic image as a “Total Work”
