Course Content (Syllabus)
Lectures: Animal Diversity and the Science of Zoology. Principles of Systematic Zoology. Protista. General structure (tissues, etc), characters, origin and evolution of animals. External morphology, anatomy, taxonomy and phylogeny of Porifera, Cnidaria, Ctenophora, Platyhelminthes, Nematoda, Rotifera, Mollusca, Annelida, Arthropoda and Echinodermata.
Laboratory exercises: The use of microscope. Observation of the main groups of Protista. Tissues observation. Anatomy and identification of selected species of different groups: sponges, cnidarians, tapeworms, nematodes, annelids, mollusks, arthropods (insects, crustaceans, arachnids, millipedes), echinoderms.
