Course Content (Syllabus)
Hydrology – Water sources. Physical, chemical and microbiological quality of water. Microbial indi-cators of waterborne disease - Microbiological analysis. Process engineering and design. Particles’ separation processes: Coagulation – flocculation, sedimentation- basic principles- basins – parameters affecting sedi¬mentation, flotation basic principles–basins-equipment-parameters affecting flotation, filtration –deep bed – surface-head loss, process design. Precipitation: chemistry principles, removal of Fe2+-Mn2+-Ca2+-Mg2+-HCO3--SO42-, heave metals. Adsorption: process classification – isotherms-RSSCTs-thermodynamics– kinetics-removal specific pollutants. Disinfection: disinfec¬tants, process alterna¬tives-mechanisms – factors governing effectiveness-kinetics-process design. Dissolved solid separation: Reverse osmosis, electrodialysis, ion exchange-resins-equilibria – kinetics, process design. Deposits: fouling – scaling – identification, treatments to control deposits. Corrosion: theory of corrosion - thermodynamics and kinetics- parameters of water affecting corrosion rate -treatment alternatives for corrosion control- methods for corrosion measurements.
