Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to a) give information about the value of the Old Testament for theological study and ecclesiastical theology, b) follow and understand the key issues of scientific study and research of the OT, c) answer questions concerning the formation and contents of the Old Testament books.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course Introduction to the Old Testament informs about content, formation, history and theology of the Old Testament according to modern biblical scholarship and patristic approaches. 1. Introduction: Terminology. Definitions. 2. General introduction: The Old Testament as history and revelation 3. The history of the Old Testament canon 4. The text-history of the Old Testament. 5. Bible-Translations and Qumran-texts 6. The Septuagint: modern research 7. Special Introduction: Introduction to the Pentateuch. The composition of the Pentateuch 8. Pentateuch 9. Other historical books 10. The poetic books 11. The prophetic books I 12. The prophetic books II 13. The prophetic books III
