Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course the students will be able: - to understand and explain the theological criteria of Orthodox triadology - to undestand the causes that led to the anti-trinitatian heresies of the ancient Church - to interpret the theological presupposition that led to the filioque doctrine - to explain the hermeneutical principles of Orthodox pneumatology

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course is based on four main points: a) the analysis of the theological presuppositions of the teaching on the Holy Spirit, b) the main position that pneumatology is integral part of triadological doctrine as it is stated in the writings of the most important Fathers of the ancient Church, c) the salvific ministry of the Holy Spirit in the history of divine economy, and d) the filioque doctrine Schedule of the course 1) Theophanies in the history of the Church 2) The mystery of the Trinitarian God: biblical sources 3) The trinitarian theology 4) The trinitarian terminology 5) Trinitarian heresies 6) Pneumatological heresies 7) The Holy Spirit in the ancient Church: the main principles of Eastern patristic theology (the Alexandrian tradition) 8) The Holy Spirit in the ancient Church: the main features of Eastern patristic theology (the Cappadocian tradition) 9) Church and the Holy Spirit: sacraments and liturgical life 10) Church and the Holy Spirit: the salvation through the Holy Spirit 11) The procession of the Holy Spirit 12) The Filioque doctrine: the Western Church Fathers 13) The reception of Eastern patristic pneumatology by the Western theological tradition
