General Prerequisites
"Machine Elements II" is the sequel of the the course "Machine Elements I". Therefore, it is extremely difficult to successfully attend the course without having passed the following courses: - Mechanical Drawing I and II - Statics - Strength of Materials and of course - Machine Elements I
Learning Outcomes
Assuming known the operation principle , the students should be able to design a functional, easy to manufacture machine. They should also be able to identify the critical spots and the modes of failure that could occur. It is important to shape and choose the dimensions adequately. Finally, the students should be able to calculate the safety factor and evaluate its magnitude.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Lubricants and lubrication. Seals. Plain journal bearings. Clutches. Design and analysis of belt drives, gears and gearboxes. Design of complex machines. NOTE: The syllabus is currently being reformed.

Description
The evaluation considers the semester project, the tests and the final examination in June. Pass/fail is decided according the grades achieved in the tests and the final examination. If the grade is above 5, it can be improved considering. IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED TO PARTICIPATE TO THE EXAMS IN JUNE.
